On the 27-31 May, 2018, the Institute of Asian Studies, Chulalongkorn University held the SCG-ASEAN Initiative Conference in Chulalongkorn University and Sichang Marine Science Research and Training Station, Chonburi province, Thailand. It aims to provide an opportunity for the attending scholars to share their research implementation in the final draft with participants from the three University partners and receive comments from international scholars.

We are honored to have Professor Dr. Aung Myat Kyaw Sein, Prof. Dr. Mie Mie Sein, Rector and Pro-rector of Mawlamyine University, as well as Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Duc Vuong, Vice-rector of Quang Binh University and Mr. Kriangkrai Yooyeun, representative of SCG, including all the 11 distinguished professors and researchers from Mawlamyine University, Quang Binh University and Institute of Asian Studies, Chulalongkorn University to participate in the conference. We also invited Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rosalia Sciortino, Founder/Executive Director of SEA Junction and professor at Institute for Population and Social Research (IPSR), Mahidol University and Asst Prof. Dr. Carl Middleton, lecturer on the MA in International Development Studies program and Deputy Director for International Research in the Center for Social Development Studies, the Faculty of Political Science, Chulalongkorn University to be the commentators of the conference.

The SCG-ASEAN Initiative Conference was the final phase of “the SCG-ASEAN Researchers Development Initiative” program (SCG-ASEAN Initiative), which was a program initiated by the Institute of Asian Studies (IAS), Chulalongkorn University, in collaboration with the Siam Cement Group Public Company Limited (SCG). The program aims to be an international platform of communication for professors of different universities to share, develop and improve their research skills under the guidance of international experts. Lastly, the Institute of Asian Studies had signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Quang Binh University to further extend research collaboration and academic exchange in the upcoming years.
